Microsoft launches Outlook.com, a new email service with limited ads, unlimited storage and built-in Skype

Posted on 05:11 by Unknown

So Microsoft launched a new email service today — not a redesigned version of Hotmail, but a completely new, built-from-the-ground-up service. It’s called Outlook.com, and for now, at least, it will exist separately from Hotmail, as Microsoft attempts to distance itself from Hotmail’s bad rap. As it happens, the email features are basically the same across the two services, but from a visual standpoint, Outlook.com is everything Hotmail is not: where Hotmail has distracting banners and video ads, Outlook’s are discreet.

Indeed, you won’t find any targeted ads on conversations with individual people (newsletters and such are still fair game). In lieu of those creepy personalized ads, you’ll see quick access to Twitter and Facebook, where you can retweet and like things, as well as post comments. Skype integration is coming too (finally!), though that feature isn’t live today. Most importantly, though, it brings a fresh, minimal interface designed to lure away Gmail users who wouldn’t have otherwise given Hotmail the time of day.

Outlook.com is open to the public starting today. You can create a new account or sign in using an existing Hotmail address. Though it’s still in its preview phase, anyone can sign up (read: no invites necessary). Storage is “virtually” unlimited — Microsoft doesn’t want to promise potential spammers a limitless account — and anyone creating a Microsoft account for the first time gets the usual 7GB of complimentary SkyDrive storage. Hit up that source link if you want check it out yourself.

Gap between Mac and PC sales the smallest in 15 years.

Posted on 10:53 by Unknown

Apple has been on one hell of a tear lately. The company's signature iPhone dominates the smartphone market. Apple's new iPad is, by far, the best selling tablet being sold today. There's only one market where Apple is still playing catch up: Computer sales, an arena where PCs still dominate. But even there, Apple can find a silver lining: CNN is reporting that the gap between Mac sales and PC sales is the smallest its been since the 1990s.

Currently, PCs are outselling Macs by a ratio of about 20 to 1. That's a huge lead, but Apple has been steadily closed the gap over the last decade from its 2004 low of 55 to 1. When you factor in mobile devices such as phones and tablet computers, the PC vs. Mac gap closes to a mere 2 to 1, with Apple likely to draw even within the next year or two.

According to tech analyst Horace Dediu of Asymco, the secret to Apple's recent success is the MacBook. "The MacBook became easily differentiable as a 'better' laptop. It was not faster, did not have more storage or any key metrics being used to sell PCs. It was just better as an integrated product." And given the splash that the new MacBook Pro with Retina display is making in tech circles, Apple may wind up seeing yet another strong boost in their market share.

Samsung Galaxy S III LTE with quad-core Exynos comes to three Korean carriers Tomorrow.

Posted on 10:44 by Unknown

While in the US, our LTE-equipped Galaxy S IIIs are packing dual-core Snapdragon S4 processors, the (so far) Korean-only Galaxy S III LTE that combines the quad-core Exynos processor of the international model with high speed data finally has a release date — July 9th. Samsung’s post indicates three carriers (SK Telecom, KT and LG U+) are lined up for the launch and confirms that the battery will remain at 2,100 mAh along with 2GB of RAM and DMB TV tuning. Having everything will likely come at a price of battery life since the quad-core CPUs are not as well integrated with LTE so far, but those willing to compromise for more cores (despite the dual-core Krait’s not-at-all shabby performance) will likely look on with envy.

Motorola Atrix HD revealed with 4.5-inch Colorboost HD display, ICS and Droid RAZR looks.

Posted on 10:43 by Unknown

The next Motorola Atrix phone has been revealed on the company’s website as the Atrix HD, with an MB886 model number. According to the listed specs, it features a 4.5-inch HD Colorboost (720 x 1,280) display, 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, and will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and (predictably) looks very much like the Droid RAZR. There’s no carrier mentioned (other than the blatant logo at the bottom), but judging by the radio bands mentioned in the specs, it comes off very much as a Droid RAZR for AT&T with quad-band EDGE, quad-band HSPA+ and dual-band LTE. It has a 1780 mAh battery, 8MP rear camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (up to 32GB external) and measures 8.4mm thick. The construction is as you’d expect, with Gorilla Glass and Kevlar fused to make the “business ready” handset, while the Atrix 2′s Lapdock 100 is listed as an accessory. There’s no word on when the third Atrix will be launched, but you can find out all about it and sign up for updates right now at the source link.

Microsoft applies for high-performance touchscreen patent.

Posted on 10:40 by Unknown

Remember when Microsoft got us all salivating with a proof-of-concept demo that took touchscreen lag from 100ms to 1ms? Well, Redmond is protecting the product of its tireless research by applying for a patent. The claim focuses heavily on the use of a predictive system that takes an educated guess as to where you’re going to move next, and does some serious preprocessing to minimize lag. The result is a smooth moving UI, so long as you don’t surprise the predictive algorithms. Do something completely unanticipated and all those preloaded animations must be flushed, resulting in some graphical stutter. We wouldn’t get too excited just yet, though, the broad patent, seems like it’s a long way out from landing in a smartphone or tablet. The clip we saw in March (embedded after the break) is little more than a white splotch that follows your finger. But, if even some of this tech makes into future Windows products, expect your touchscreen experience to be a much smoother one.

Nokia Lumia 800 and 710 get Windows Phone 7.5 update, finally get to Tango

We’d heard that the Lumia 800 and 710 were to get Windows Phone 7.5 a software update bringing fresh features sometime soon, but the time has officially arrived for these two to Tango. Today Nokia announced that the fresh code has already started rolling out, bringing hotspot and flip-to-silence functionality to the handsets. Plus, once you’ve updated via your Zune desktop software, access to the nifty Camera Extras software — already promised to Lumia 900 owners — is but a download away. As a refresher, those Extras allow Lumias to take Scalado-powered Smart Group Shots, provide a better burst mode for action pics, plus add a self-timer and panorama mode as well. Want to see the new camera features in action before taking the plunge? Check out the video after the break.

Google Drive: 10 million users Served.

Posted on 04:16 by Unknown

During the Day Two of Google I/O 2012, the Big G gave us an update on the success of its cloud storage solution. Google Drive’s been accessed by over 10 million people, which comes out to about 1 million a week since its launch. Not a massive number, but it’s a pretty good start, and with the explosive growth of Android and the addition of Chrome OS and iDevice users to the Drive party, the cloud locker’s legion of users will continue to grow.

Jelly Bean port passes the butter to the Galaxy S III, ROM-flashing required.

Posted on 04:11 by Unknown

It took only one day for devs to unleash Jelly Bean 4.1 from its server confines and out into the eager underbelly of Android’s community. And those enterprising hackers haven’t wasted any time getting that buttered up OS running on Galaxy Nexus handsets (yes, even for Verizon subs). Now, good news is also on the way for any consumers who forsook the pure Google path in favor of Samsung’s TouchWizzed way. That’s right, a (mostly) working port has been made available to Galaxy S III (I9300) users that should see some of that point upgrade’s features successfully implemented. Feel free to take it for a test run if you’re skilled in the ways of flashing, but bear in mind you’ll lose access to the camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, storage and audio. It goes without saying that this build is far from the perfect ROM for a daily driver, but if you’re curious to check it out first-hand, there’s no harm in trying. Hit up the source below for the step-by-step how-to.

Rumor: Google working on Nexus 10 Tablet too!

Posted on 04:07 by Unknown

It should come as no surprise that Google isn’t content on releasing a “Google Experience” tablet just in a 7-inch form factor. No, there’s a whole tablet sector to conquer — a sector with Apple’s name written all over it — and sources claim Google is continuing on with its quest by attacking the iPad on the 10-inch front.

According to unnamed sources, Wintek shipped 500,000 units of OGS (one glass solution) touch panels for Google’s Nexus 7 tablet in June. Total shipments of OGS panels to the search engine giant are expected to top at least one million units during the May to July 2012 period — that’s not including the OGS touch panels Google will receive from TPK Holding subsidiary Cando as well.

The sources claim that Google will also launch a 10-inch Nexus tablet using OGS panels from Wintek, making the company the largest touch panel supplier for Google. Also in the 10-inch plan is supplier AU Optronics, the sources said.

Recently Wintek chairman Hyley Huang said that OGS panels are expected to become mainstream next year, with an estimated 26.5 million notebooks to adopt touch panels in 2013. He also indicated that the company is venturing into the development of F/G touch panel solutions which will come in thicknesses measuring 0.1 to 0.2-mm.

Wintek reports that it has a production capacity of three million medium-sized OGS touch panels, and five million small-sized OGS touch panels.

News of a 10-inch Nexus tablet arrives after Microsoft revealed its Windows 8-based branded Surface tablet last week. The gadget will arrive in two flavors: x86-based with Windows 8 Pro, and ARM-based with Windows RT. It will feature a cool screen cover that also serves as a super-thin keyboard.

There’s also talk that Amazon will launch the 10-inch version of its Kindle Fire “Hollywood” tablet before the end of the year. Like the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD (2), it will feature a metal casing rather than a plastic body as seen with the original, a front-facing camera, and a possible mini-HDMI output jack.

Easy Ways to Unblock Websites

Posted on 03:16 by Unknown
How to Unblock Websites

1. Use web proxies.

Many free online services allow you to access blocked websites through a proxy server. A proxy server is an intermediary between the user and the server where the request was send. Here is a list with the most known resources of web proxies: Proxy.org, HideMyAss.com, Kortaz.com,KProxy.com and Anonymouse.org

2. Use VPN connections.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is like a tunnel over the public network. The advantage of using VPNs over web proxies is that VPNs are more secure because they are using advanced encryption and allow you to access all the applications (mail, chat, browser etc) in complete anonymity and not only the web sites. The most known free VPN is Hotspot Shield.

3. Use Hide IP software.

These are easy to use and even if the main functionality is to hide IP address and unblock websites, there are applications that can provide you more than that – like cleaning online tracks, testing proxies, manually adding proxy etc. Usually if you choose a free software, then this will provide you a minimal number of proxies and no other features than hiding IP address. Not My IP is one of the latest free hide IP address software that has already gained a large market followed by the old UltraSurf which is already very popular. Regarding paid applications that provide more features and have a complex structure, my recommendations are IP Privacy and Hide My IP.

4. Use Toolbars and Firefox add-ons.

Toolbars and Firefox add-ons are in fact software applications that work on specific browsers and with a simple click you can enable or disable online anonymity.

5. Use translation services.

Introduce the link of the blocked website in the translation field (for example in Google Translator) and choose a random language to translate from because translation from English to English is not supported.

6. Use Google cache.

In the Google search field type cache: before the URL of the blocked website. For example type cache:http://www.domain.com

7. Use Internet Archive.

Internet Archive allows you to view blocked websites through the Wayback Machine. This will retrieve all pages of a specific website indifferent if the website is blocked.

8. Use Web2Mail service.

Web2Mail it is a free email service that can sent to your email address specific web pages. You sign up for an account and get set to receive specific websites by email.

9. Change the http of an URL into https

This is the easiest way to access blocked websites. Of course, this might not work every time but you have many other solutions also. This is the fastest one.

10. Use IP address of the website instead of URL.

To use the IP address of a website instead of URL, you must first find its IP. To do this open command prompt and type: “ping domain.com”.
