India’s $35 Android tablet has a twin?

Posted on 01:18 by Unknown

I’m not sure whether we can take this as breaking news, or a rumormill. Some reports have come in, that the India’s $35 tablet is believed to be a Hivision Speedpad, which is a $100 Android tablet made in China.

India made popular their ‘Designed in India’ tablet due to its unbelievably low price of $35 for students, at least. When you announced an Android tablet that cost merely $35, while everyone outside is pretty much paying over $200 to even $500 for nearly the same thing, whose gonna blame you for being sceptical.

Now we won’t directly jump to the conclusion that the government of India had lie blatantly to the whole world, but these images are just hard to ignore. The government had declared that the tablet being the result of hard work done by top Engineering colleges in India, whose reputation will definitely take a huge beating if at all this news turns out to be true.

At-least with what we can see, the $35 tablet looks like a knockoff of the Chinese Speedpad (PWS700HA) which was unveiled at CeBIT 2010 and received wide coverage as the cheapest Android tablet on display. Not just the looks, even the specs are very similar. Well we’ll just wait for an ‘official’ statement from the India’s government regarding this piece of report, if they would be bothered that is.

Rydeen hopes to cash in on tablet fever with Android-based, Armada-powered PND

Posted on 01:06 by Unknown

The tablet fever has been gaining momentum, and obvious when more and more manufacturers joining in this orgy to cash in on this goldmine. You may never have heard of auto electronics provider Rydeen Mobile, but they do know your desire for a tablet to not being left out of the fun, and has thus created an 7-inch Android tablet that integrates the dedicated map functionality of its GPS machines.

The “gPad” GCOM701 won’t be a terribly high-end device, mind you, with an 800MHz ARMADA 166 SOC, 256MB of RAM, bring-your-own-microSD-storage and what we’re led to believe is a resistive touchscreen, but it sounds like at least Rydeen isn’t being stingy on the software front. You’ll find a full suite of Google Apps, Adobe Flash Lite 4 and AVI support, not to mention 4 million points of interest thanks to the integrated Navteq client. Connectivity include GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, both mini and full-sized USB ports, plus a front-facing camera for video chat, and there’s a 2400mAh battery the company claims will provide six hours of solid use. Find it this November at an unspecified price, no doubt alongside the pictured (but not mentioned) car dock.

Specifications:
