Easy Ways to Unblock Websites

Posted on 03:16 by Unknown
How to Unblock Websites

1. Use web proxies.

Many free online services allow you to access blocked websites through a proxy server. A proxy server is an intermediary between the user and the server where the request was send. Here is a list with the most known resources of web proxies: Proxy.org, HideMyAss.com, Kortaz.com,KProxy.com and Anonymouse.org

2. Use VPN connections.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is like a tunnel over the public network. The advantage of using VPNs over web proxies is that VPNs are more secure because they are using advanced encryption and allow you to access all the applications (mail, chat, browser etc) in complete anonymity and not only the web sites. The most known free VPN is Hotspot Shield.

3. Use Hide IP software.

These are easy to use and even if the main functionality is to hide IP address and unblock websites, there are applications that can provide you more than that – like cleaning online tracks, testing proxies, manually adding proxy etc. Usually if you choose a free software, then this will provide you a minimal number of proxies and no other features than hiding IP address. Not My IP is one of the latest free hide IP address software that has already gained a large market followed by the old UltraSurf which is already very popular. Regarding paid applications that provide more features and have a complex structure, my recommendations are IP Privacy and Hide My IP.

4. Use Toolbars and Firefox add-ons.

Toolbars and Firefox add-ons are in fact software applications that work on specific browsers and with a simple click you can enable or disable online anonymity.

5. Use translation services.

Introduce the link of the blocked website in the translation field (for example in Google Translator) and choose a random language to translate from because translation from English to English is not supported.

6. Use Google cache.

In the Google search field type cache: before the URL of the blocked website. For example type cache:http://www.domain.com

7. Use Internet Archive.

Internet Archive allows you to view blocked websites through the Wayback Machine. This will retrieve all pages of a specific website indifferent if the website is blocked.

8. Use Web2Mail service.

Web2Mail it is a free email service that can sent to your email address specific web pages. You sign up for an account and get set to receive specific websites by email.

9. Change the http of an URL into https

This is the easiest way to access blocked websites. Of course, this might not work every time but you have many other solutions also. This is the fastest one.

10. Use IP address of the website instead of URL.

To use the IP address of a website instead of URL, you must first find its IP. To do this open command prompt and type: “ping domain.com”.

This is why you shouldn’t be playing Facebook at Starbucks

Posted on 00:58 by Unknown

We’ve seen so many add-ons for Firefox, and that’s a good thing. Now, things will be getting slightly haywire. Some Eric Butler who is a software developer, isn’t very happy with Facebook, and he thinks you should too. Well, at least he wants you to know why you should. So, here he is, forcing you to learn a few simple things to know how bad Mark Zuckerburg is, as so does the rest of the Internet.

He’s developed Firesheep, a Firefox add-on that even the least technically inclined among us can use to eavesdrop on open WiFi networks and capture your fellow users’ cookies. Any time a site recognized by Firesheep (including Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, and Dropbox) is accessed by a user on your network, Firesheep provides you with an icon and a link to access that account. A simple click, and Firesheep will show a small picture and a link, if there’s anyone accessing these sites with no encryption. And with a double-click, you’re on your way to post some nasty things on that person’s wall.

So, maybe you should think twice before accessing Facebook at Starbucks, or anywhere that is using public network. Maybe you should learn a thing or two about force SSL. Search up Force-TLS in Firefox Add-on, if you’re using Firefox.

Stanford University begins e-Library services to students

Posted on 00:59 by Unknown

The Stanford University’s management sure are some very intelligent and technologically updated fellows. By looking through the records of their Engineering Library faculty, they found out that there are a large numbers of books that did not check-out in the past five years. More so, further investigation shows that majority of the engineering students only borrow books to browse through formulas and theories statements. This is largely through. I used to hunt for books in the library only to double confirm the formula usage and some other small details. Hardly have I check-out the books and read those thousand pages Engineering books throughout the whole weekend.

Therefore, to save up resources and spaces, the Stanford University has reduced nearly 85% of the books (from 60,000 to only 10,000) on their dusty shelves. What’s been taken away, has been replaced with digitized books on their online archives.

So instead of carrying the physical volumes, the library will offer access to searchable, digitized versions of books and periodicals—especially useful for engineers who often only need to consult the book for a formula or two in the first place. The new library will still hold 10,000 real deal paper books, but that’s compared to the 60,000 that sat on the shelves in the old library.

Well, I think it’s a smart way to reduce the falling of trees onto unnecessary books that is hardly touched. Since we’ve greatly marched into the digital century, it’s of kush a great idea to digitize books for students, whom majority hold a notebook for studies usage. With the introduction of the e-Library, students can have access to reading materials nearly anywhere with Internet connectivity.

Google makes our search, “our” search.

Posted on 03:32 by Unknown

Google is getting better and better with their services. Last time they started the Gmail, and expanded its capacity greatly until other services had to follow suit. Later they enable SSL encryption on their products ranging from Gmail to Google Docs and others.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connections encrypt data that travels between your computer and that particular site. There would usually be a web address starting with “https” or a browser lock icon when surfing SSL encrypted sites, this technology is regularly used by online banking sites and e-commerce websites. Other sites may also implement SSL in a more limited fashion, for example, to help protect your passwords when you enter your login information.

“When you search on https://www.google.com, an encrypted connection is created between your browser and Google. This secured channel helps protect your search terms and your search results pages from being intercepted by a third party on your network. The service includes a modified logo to help indicate that you’re searching using SSL and that you may encounter a somewhat different Google search experience, but as always, remember to check the start of the address bar for “https” and your browser lock indicators. – Google Blog”

This can explain well the frequent Internet interruption!

Posted on 01:14 by Unknown

Researchers are urging better security for our deep-sea cables, as they claim it to be very vulnerable to threads, be it natural disasters or human factor accidents.

“As global Internet and communication links 99 per cent relies on undersea cables instead of satellite, our global economics might get choked all of a sudden if it get sabotaged” – says Alan Mauldin, an analyst at Telegeography Research.

Karl Rauscher, for Bell Labs engineer who compiled the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) publicly request for better security towards submarine cables, at the Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit in Dallas, Texas, last week.

The report stated that many of the cables passing through choke points, such as the Strait of Malacca near Singapore, the Luzon Strait between Taiwan and the Philippines, and the Suez Canal, are extremely vulnerable. Damage to the cables at these points could lead to phone networks becoming jammed and internet traffic slowing to a crawl, which means economy might crawl leading to many issues.

Examples would be incidents like the Howard Street tunnel running beneath downtown Baltimore, where a freight train derailed and spilled 20,000 liters of hydrochloric acid, thus destroying undersea fibre-optic cables. Other incidents like cables getting caught in fishing nets, and those that got damaged by ships’ anchors.

The report not only urge for tighter security on submarine fibre-optic cables, but also calls for new cables built on alternative routes to provide back-up to vulnerable points in the gigantic network.

The Hotmail is back, and its HOT!

Posted on 01:20 by Unknown

Well that’s what Microsoft hopes for, at least. Microsoft will be launching new features to their classic Hotmail which it overhauled lately, and with it hoping to overtake Google’s Gmail service as the top webmail provider in the states.

Back then, the Hotmail team lingers around to realize that Hotmail was very much outdated, and far fetch from their competitors in terms of features, and decided that the 15 years old service needed much changes in order to gain back momentum and take back a piece of their market pie that has been eaten up by the likes of Google.

Search Engine Poisoned

Posted on 01:18 by Unknown

It seemed like, with every trend comes a bad worm. Well the bad boys certainly have been hooking up with the trends of Apple’s successful iPad sales. Using a method known as “spamindexing”, or in layman’s term “poisoning search results”, cyber criminals manage to trespass our computers that are not properly secured.

This was quickly spotted by global computer security company Symantec, which monitors and analyze search engine results for malicious URLs. The conclusions that they come up with are:

- On average at any given hour, 3 out of the top 10 search trends contained at least one malicious URL within the first 70 results.
- On average, 15 links out of the first 70 results were malicious for search terms that were found to be poisoned (had at least one malicious URL).
- On average on any given day, 7.3% of links are malicious in the top 70 results for top search terms.
- The most poisoned search term resulted in 68% of links leading to malicious pages in the first 70 results.
- Almost all of the malicious URLs redirect to a fake anti-virus page.

This proves that not all of the results u get from Google is safe, and therefore we advice readers to practice cautions whenever accessing the Internet. Like Wiseman says, “prevention is better than cure”.
