PS3 private cryptography key hacked, mass Bluray disc coming!

Posted on 00:41 by Unknown

Linux on every PS3 ever sold. Possible? Yes, and it’s coming probably next month, as a group of hackers called fail0verflow has just claimed to hacked the PS3 to reveal its own private cryptography key, the all important thing that allows people to sign their own code. But that’s not all; they also revealed that Sony didn’t bother generating any random numbers to secure the blasted thing, thus the cryptography always generate a same number all the time. The group intends to generate a proof-of-concept video tomorrow, and release the tools sometime next month, which will allow installation of Linux onto PS3.

Kinect Hacked To Play World of Warcraft

Posted on 00:37 by Unknown

Since many had hacked Kinect to do all sorts of stupid stuff, why not mod it to do some real actions? That’s what this new hack is all about. The Institute for Creative Technologies at the University of Southern California demonstrates its Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST) technology in this World of Warcraft for Kinect demo. Yes, using Kinect to wave your hands around and control your World of Warcraft hero.

Using open source software and smarts, the eggheads at USC can control some of WoW’s simpler actions—movement, spellcasting, targeting—with the Xbox 360 add-on. FAAST is designed to be used with off-the-shelf game software and can be configured to work with different titles. So the future of the mouse is your hand and your body?

Nintendo Wii Remote Plus gets real, only $40, and is bloody red!

Posted on 01:49 by Unknown

Yes, the Wii Remote Plus is a simple bundle that adds that MotionPlus into your typical Wiimote, but they’re doing it fair as it’s only priced at $39.99. You surely won’t miss it, as it’s packed in a super bright crimson red package. Might be the influence of that New Super Mario Bros included in the bundle. Regardless, that’ll be $199, and that new, 25th Anniversary red DSi XL bundle Nintendo announced last month is official too, costing $179. All three launch in just a couple weeks, on November 7, so get ready to ditch those dongles.

Kinect TV ads out, seemed like the actors are having fun!

Posted on 01:45 by Unknown

Yes, finally we’re seeing some results from Steve Ballmer’s massive USD500 million marketing campaign. While there’s not much mention of the Kinect in the ads, it shows clearly that the kids are having hell lots of fun time with these things. Mugging and jumping around. Hopefully when you really buy a Kinect, your neighbour living downstairs won’t complain of you stomping late at night (assuming you’re living in an apartment or a condo).

Leaked Xbox 360 dashboard gets demonstrated on video

Posted on 01:09 by Unknown

The new Xbox 360 dashboard has been leaked into YouTube, and being demoed. Thought this is not actually new, as some had already seen it in the Kinect Beta program, but now the whole world would be able to have a look at this new refreshing interface.

As you can see in the pair of videos below, the new Dashboard is decidedly squarer than the current one, and contains few elements that haven’t gone untouched. You can also now even try out the new Dashboard yourself relatively easily, though you may run into a bit of trouble if you actually want to do thing like play games online.

RetroN 3 will relieve your classic console glory.

Posted on 02:23 by Unknown

The RetroN 3, in retro-futurist red (I don’t even know what that color is, besides being red) or sober, is fully compatible with your Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and SNES cartridges, if you haven’t thrown ‘em out of the store yet. Not only is the cartridges compatible, but so does the good ol’ controllers. I wonder if mine is still working or not. But fear not, as they also provide their own wireless controllers. Talk about trendy classics. Well this classically new console is yours for a sweat $70.

HKS Racing Controller for PS3

Posted on 00:53 by Unknown

HKS has teamed with InterWorks to release this game controller for the PS3. The hot-coal red Hipermax III replaces the analog joysticks with a thumb wheel on the left side and throttle and brake buttons on the right side. The wheel has center stripe to aid steering, and the precise inputs of the throttle and brake controls are registered in the digital readout in the center of the controller. There’s no official price yet but there are words from them that it would cost less than the official Sony dual shockPS3 controller which retails for $54.99.

Steelseries Spectrum is another headset tailored for Xbox 360.

Posted on 01:31 by Unknown

Steelseries, the famous gaming gears manufacturer, has announced their new headsets, the Spectrum which is specially designed for Xbox 360 gamers. With gaming sound clarity and Xbox live chatter in mind, the new headsets will allow you to pinpoint your enemy’s position, and chat with your pals with crispy clear sound. It’s a rather expected release somehow, as after Steelseries released the HD-series surfaces, and the Xai mouse, there’s no new releases for the audio department after the 7H series, especially one that is targeted at consoles. By the way, the name sounds awfully familiar .

There’s 2 models coming from Steelsound, one would be the higher end 5xb, and another entry level 4xb. The 5xb follows Steelsound’s 3-piece design, where you can disassemble the headset for easy carry to LAN sessions. Both come with large cups that will snug comfily on your ear, covering the whole ear and removing any unnecessary sound from outside. Both also spot the famous retractable microphones that many gamers like. The xb-series comes with the new Spectrum AudioMixer cables that will allow any 3.5-inch jack to work with the Xbox 360. Check out Steelseries’s press release at their site.

Twistdock, a PS3 docking station that you would love.

Posted on 04:29 by Unknown

Enough of the Xbox news, here’s some goodie for PS3 owners. A docking station for PS3 but comes with a twist. Vogel launched this Twistdock for PS3 at E3 Expo. It’s able to hold either an original PS3 or Slim, and on the back, two controllers can be slotted into the dock to be charged. There’s a USB hub for connecting other electronic device, though its functions are not stated. A sexy and lovely add-on device for your living room, in compliment to your dusty electronics.

Goodbye Project Natal, Hello Xbox Kinect™

Posted on 01:56 by Unknown

Microsoft’s project naming team sure has hit a big flop. I wonder what’s wrong with the name Natal, it sound quite “lethal”, like a Tomahawk. Anyway, Microsoft has officially rename Project Natal to Xbox Kinect.

“For lots of people, that controller is a barrier,” Microsoft creative director Kudo Tsunoda told USA Today. “We set out to make a new control paradigm where anybody can get in and play, without having to read the instructions or learn a complicated set of controls.”

Xbox Kinect will be unveiled at E3 tomorrow, along with some titles at launch. Lucasarts has prepared a Star Wars game for Kinect, along with Disney, MTV with their dancing game, a pet-training title, a Wii Sports mimic called “Kinect Sports” (I lol at the name), an adventure sports game (tennis?), and an expected kid racing game called Joyride which will feature the motion-control as its selling point.
