India’s $35 Android tablet has a twin?

Posted on 01:18 by Unknown

I’m not sure whether we can take this as breaking news, or a rumormill. Some reports have come in, that the India’s $35 tablet is believed to be a Hivision Speedpad, which is a $100 Android tablet made in China.

India made popular their ‘Designed in India’ tablet due to its unbelievably low price of $35 for students, at least. When you announced an Android tablet that cost merely $35, while everyone outside is pretty much paying over $200 to even $500 for nearly the same thing, whose gonna blame you for being sceptical.

Now we won’t directly jump to the conclusion that the government of India had lie blatantly to the whole world, but these images are just hard to ignore. The government had declared that the tablet being the result of hard work done by top Engineering colleges in India, whose reputation will definitely take a huge beating if at all this news turns out to be true.

At-least with what we can see, the $35 tablet looks like a knockoff of the Chinese Speedpad (PWS700HA) which was unveiled at CeBIT 2010 and received wide coverage as the cheapest Android tablet on display. Not just the looks, even the specs are very similar. Well we’ll just wait for an ‘official’ statement from the India’s government regarding this piece of report, if they would be bothered that is.

Acer will throw in a Froyo-fonk nicknamed Liquid Metal handset at end of October

Posted on 01:16 by Unknown

Acer’s iPad rival has yet to be launched, and they’re already so excited in telling the world that they’re gonna release a new handset with both Windows Phone 7 version and Android version. Known as the Liquid Metal handset (surely not designed and developed by Apple’s liquid metal arm), it might hit stores in the end of October. That’s purely speculations thought.

The unconfirmed specs include the same 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 as inside the T-Mobile G2, a 3.6-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, Bluetooth 3.0 onboard, and the handsome backplate you see above, which seems to have been made out of brushed aluminium, or liquid metal. Looks awfully like a Nokia N70 with a ‘misallocated’ camera thought.

Gosh, the smartphone market is getting extremely packed. Guys, I need a gas tank!

New Kindle is readable even with sunglasses

Posted on 01:15 by Unknown

In this huge world where reality is extremely competitive, we can always see some people taking a bite at others while trying to sell their stuff. We’ve seen quite a bit of biting from some to some, not only in the technology world, but also in many others, like auto manufacturers. The new Kindle from Amazon has just posted a new video ad at YouTube, which somehow takes comparison to a supposedly Apple iPad.

There are few funny things to note. I didn’t see any Kindle or iPad in the video. The only things I saw are a Lady Gaga sunglass, and nice teeth. Sadly thought, that Kindle would never have the chance to view this video.

Samsung to multiply its display manufacturing arm by 10 times

Posted on 01:14 by Unknown

We already knew about Samsung’s grand campaigns for escalating its display manufacturing arm in 2011, but now we also have a number to give us a sense of solid numbers: 30 million. That’s how many screens the new Mobile Display fab (set to go live in July) will be able to churn out in a month, which is a vastly superior rate in contrast to the current 3 million maximum. 10 times baby, 10 times.

Lee Woo-Jong, the display business’ marketing VP, tells us its estimates for AMOLED market demand have been revised upwards to 700 million units in 2015, with the new facility obviously being the key cog in making that growth happen. Intriguingly, he also notes that Super AMOLED – one of the big attractions of the Galaxy S line of Samsung phones – is not exclusive to Samsung’s electronics arm, everyone can apparently use it. That directly contradicts what we heard from Samsung’s mobile reps, but then this is hardly the first time the team members campaigned without discussing the game’s tactics beforehand.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Sneaks Up A Singleplayer Trailer

Posted on 01:13 by Unknown

As we all know that time flies so fast, the amazing Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is getting near to go live, in November! With the game out soon, it’s nice to finally see a proper trailer devoted to its singleplayer campaign.Er, wait, singleplayer?

This collection of in-engine footage not only shows you the real game, it also shows you Ezio’s extended suite of moves for the singleplayer component of the title, something that’s been largely (though not entirely) overlooked in the game’s marketing to date.

Google TV officially launching October 17th?

Posted on 01:12 by Unknown

We’ve seen the Logitech Revue box hardware, and Sony’s demo of the Google TV-supported hardware. But when will the big bomb get dropped in our living room? Engadget had a tipster told that the original plan to launch in October 3rd, was pushed back by two weeks. That would be around the 20th of October, or even late October. If you would like to be very specific, the push back calculated to a launch date of October 17th, which is certainly later then what Intel’s chief recently hinted at. How trustworthy is this news is anyone’s guess. But when we look at the source which comes from insiders of Best Buy, which is an official partner of Google TV, it seemed extremely relevant.

DisplayLinkwill give your USB 3.0 ‘any device, any display connectivity’ freedom

Posted on 01:12 by Unknown

We’ve seen some big corporates trying to push the Display-over-Ethernet concept, but now some other people have another idea. DisplayLink Corp wants your monitor to be powered up by a USB 3.0 connection too. Here at IDF 2010, DisplayLink has come forward with public plans to gravitate towards “any device, any display connectivity” with its new USB 3.0 chip platform. The DL-3000 and DL-1000 single chip series are being introduced in San Francisco, with each offering integrated display and networking connectivity, HD video support and “third generation DisplayLink adaptive real-time compression technology that dynamically manages bandwidth, taking full advantage bi-directional throughput of SuperSpeed USB.”

This new platform will enable a wide range of applications that create an interactive connection between device and display. These include:

* USB or Ethernet bus powered monitors
* Universal USB docking stations with graphics, networking, and audio
* Affordable Ethernet and USB zero clients for shared resource computing
* USB to HDMI adapters for PC to TV connectivity
* USB to DVI, VGA or DisplayPort adapters for multi-display notebooks
* Mobile device to display
* Dual-Headed USB bus powered graphics adapters

“DisplayLink technology has enabled the new category of universal docking stations, in addition to zero clients and other devices that are used by major corporations and educational institutions globally,” added Dennis Crespo, executive vice president of marketing and business development at DisplayLink. “We look forward to working with our customers to develop a host of next-generation, creative devices that solve real world problems for the digital consumer.”

Thanks to SuperSpeed bandwidth increases, multiple full HD videos, high resolution graphics and networking data can be processed simultaneously, and there’s even the potential to enable graphics delivery over gigabit Ethernet. Now, will Intel join in the ‘greatness’ of this?

iHome teases first AirPlay-compatible portable speaker dock

Posted on 01:11 by Unknown

iHome seemed to be very happy to get in first into the AirPlay bandwagon with their latest speaker. However, they seemed reluctant to share even a single info about it. All we know is that it’ll have a rechargeable battery and be available for the holidays. Doesn’t look much like a speaker thought, more like a Peci.

Leaked Xbox 360 dashboard gets demonstrated on video

Posted on 01:09 by Unknown

The new Xbox 360 dashboard has been leaked into YouTube, and being demoed. Thought this is not actually new, as some had already seen it in the Kinect Beta program, but now the whole world would be able to have a look at this new refreshing interface.

As you can see in the pair of videos below, the new Dashboard is decidedly squarer than the current one, and contains few elements that haven’t gone untouched. You can also now even try out the new Dashboard yourself relatively easily, though you may run into a bit of trouble if you actually want to do thing like play games online.

Nokia’s next generation smartphone is also your credit card, nearly.

Posted on 01:08 by Unknown

Nokia Swipe from bob haarmans on Vimeo.

Nokia has shown to the rest of the world their latest software called Espoo, which integrates NFC payments with instant digital receipt uploaded to your phone, instead of a printed copy. Sound very ‘green’ indeed. They also ‘promised’ that their entire smartphone line starting next year will embrace this technology.

Perhaps even cooler, though, the system reads the receipt once it’s back on your phone and makes a note of the product’s return period so that it can remind you when time’s running out, perfect for getting maximum usage out of that N8 before flipping it back from whence it came. If we had to guess, this might be unveiled in full at Nokia World, which just happens to kick off tomorrow. Excited? Well, digital wallet is somewhat very 2008 thought. Hope Nokia can include a Bluetooth-enabled compact receipt printer as an optional accessory.

Panasonic cranks out new 31 and 19 Series Toughbooks for Japan

Posted on 01:07 by Unknown

I’ve to admit that Panasonic’s Toughbook has never been that appealing to me, thought we can’t at all blame it to not win the beauty pageant, when it’s made to be in the war zone. Panasonic’s gone on a real tear here, releasing two new Toughbook models at once. While you grapple with the implications of such a thing, let’s get down to details.

The new 31 and 19 Series Toughbooks are 13.1-inch and 10.4-inch models, respectively, and as far as specs go, they both pack in a 160GB hard drive, up to 6GB of DDR3 SDRAM (with 2GB coming standard), and Intel QM57 Express chipset, and 1024 x 768 resolution displays. Not ‘very’ amazing as far as hardware advancement goes, but the processor seemed decent enough. Both come with Windows 7 Professional pre-installed, and the Toughbook 31 has a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 CPU, the 19’s go a 1.2 GHZ inside. Other than that they’ve both got Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1, an HDMI slot, four USB ports (no mention of 3.0 thought), and an SD card slot. Of course, they’re also drop resistant in addition to being dust and waterproof, so you can bring them with you when you go for your next snorkelling chill out. They’ll be available next week in Japan.

Rydeen hopes to cash in on tablet fever with Android-based, Armada-powered PND

Posted on 01:06 by Unknown

The tablet fever has been gaining momentum, and obvious when more and more manufacturers joining in this orgy to cash in on this goldmine. You may never have heard of auto electronics provider Rydeen Mobile, but they do know your desire for a tablet to not being left out of the fun, and has thus created an 7-inch Android tablet that integrates the dedicated map functionality of its GPS machines.

The “gPad” GCOM701 won’t be a terribly high-end device, mind you, with an 800MHz ARMADA 166 SOC, 256MB of RAM, bring-your-own-microSD-storage and what we’re led to believe is a resistive touchscreen, but it sounds like at least Rydeen isn’t being stingy on the software front. You’ll find a full suite of Google Apps, Adobe Flash Lite 4 and AVI support, not to mention 4 million points of interest thanks to the integrated Navteq client. Connectivity include GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, both mini and full-sized USB ports, plus a front-facing camera for video chat, and there’s a 2400mAh battery the company claims will provide six hours of solid use. Find it this November at an unspecified price, no doubt alongside the pictured (but not mentioned) car dock.

Specifications:

CPU / Operating System

- Marvell ARMADA 166 – 800MHz; Android OS

Screen

- 7-inch TFT resistive-type touch panel; 800×480-pixel resolution

Memory

- Internal 2Gbit DDR2 SDRAM

- External: MicroSD (removable) up to 32GB

Connectivity

- GPS: High-Sensitivity GPS Receiver (NXP GNS7560)

- Bluetooth: Marvell 8688

- Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g (Marvell 8688)

Ports

- Audio: 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Jack

- Data: USB and Mini USB (2.0)

SD Card Association wants to triple your card’s speed

Posted on 01:05 by Unknown

The SD Card Association has a new spec in the works of concept that will most likely triple the speed of its SDHC and SDXC cards, as they hope. The specification, which should be complete in Q1 next year, will achieve 300MB per second by adding a second row of electrical contacts on the bottom face of the card, and will be backward compatible with older, slower devices. Although being referred to internally as SD 4.0, brand names for the technology are still being considered — with UHS-II (the successor to UHS-I ultra-high speed bus cards) as one possibility. How this turn out to be backward compatible, is really sceptical. But since they said ‘ye’, I guess it’s really ‘ye’. Fast and furious cards coming! Make way please!

Seiko’s ‘active matrix’ E Ink watch very classy yet nearly affordable

Posted on 01:04 by Unknown

Seiko, their brand name will always give me a glimpse of their manly watches, and the handsome Asian ambassador Ekin Cheng. But their new concept seemed more ‘geeky’, even though there’s some retro cues. Even the name is very geeky. It’s called the “active matrix” E Ink watch, and it’s going to hit your nearest CityChain store in Christmas.

The company’s had a thing for E Ink timepieces for a while now, but what sets this new one apart is the supposed 180-degree viewing angle it affords – and, of course, those retro good looks do it no harm either. Then there’s also the radio-controlled movement, which receives its time from the nearest atomic clock, and the solar cells framing that electrophoretic display. All very nice and neat, but the best news is that it might (might!) not cost you your limb, your thigh, and your right eye.

Toshiba StorE TV+ drive connects up to 2TB of goodings to your HDTV, no PC needed!

Posted on 01:03 by Unknown

Some might think that a HTPC would be too big for your living room, and spoils the look. Or perhaps the Zbox’s hard disk capacity is too small. Need something big? Well Toshiba’s new StorE TV+ is prepared to quietly retain up to 2TB of media until called upon, when it can play them back via HDMI, no connected PC required.

It can also connect to PCs or other DLNA devices (like Toshiba’s new HDTVs) networked via Ethernet and the included Wi-Fi dongle or load files directly from memory cards and USB drives. Even with all that, a lack of access to internet video sources makes the £199 MSRP a tough sell even with 2TB of space at the ready, but if it works its way into a TV bundle then there may be buyers willing to bite when it ships next month, while an eSATA hard drive only StorE.D10 model will follow later this year for an unknown price.

Specs:

* StorE TV+ Main Features
* Storage Capacity: up to 2TB
* Video: MPEG1 (DAT, MPG), MPEG2 (VOB, MPG, TS/M2TS/TP/TRP), MPEG4 (AVI, MP4,
* MKV), VC-1 (WMV), H.264 (AVI, MKV, MOV, MP4), RM/RMVB (RM/RMVB)
* Audio: MP3,WMA,WAV,AAC,OGG,FLAC,Dolby Digital, DTS Digital
* Image: JPG/BMP/PNG/GIF/TIFF
* Card: 3 in 1 card slot (SD/MMC/MS)
* Subtitles: SSA, SMI, SRT, SUB, IDX+SUB (only DVD files)
* USB HOST- Connection USB mass storage device
* 2x USB2.0 – high speed USB2.0 port.
* HDMI 1.3
* Component video
* CVBS, Stereo L/R
* Internet – RJ45 port,10/100M

Klipsch announces new lines of products, very Apple centric.

Posted on 00:16 by Unknown

It’s been awhile since we last heard of Klipsch. I’ve always love their products as they always produce some very impressive audio clarity that amazes me, like their Pro Audio 2.1. Now they’re back, and ready to introduce some new products for music lovers ‘on-the-go’, which includes their very first on-ear set.

The Image One was Klipsch’s attempt to bring their signature sound drivers to the can-lovers. Having an Apple-centric mic, and three-button remote for controlling music playback on iPods, iPads, and iPhones, it’s hard not to think that they’re woo-ing some fruit fans. What’s great for it being portable is that the ear cups can be folded flat. Price wise, you can tell that you’re getting a quality product when you’re paying $149.99 for a pair of cans.

Next would be the Image S5i Rugged which will be joining Klipsch’s famous Image Series IEM. The S5i will be receiving some Apple touch like the Image One, with the aforementioned three-button remote / mic as well as a ‘safety case’ that touts a built-in flashlight. Yours for a ‘mere’ $129.99, which you can start saving now for their November debut.

Tagging along the S5i would be an Image S3, which Klipsch specially made for those of you with a tight fist. Priced at just $49.99, it’s the company’s new low-end set, but still ships with a trio of oval ear tips, a carrying case, and even has four colors for you to choose from.

NASA going to the sun, nobody wants to enroll.

Posted on 00:10 by Unknown

NASA seemed to be hot headed right now, as it’s planning a visit to the hottest star around us. Yea, NASA is sending a Solar Probe Plus into the Sun’s atmosphere, which will be the first time any craft visits that place. Previously all data were collected from distances at least millions of miles away. Maybe now is a cooler season to visit the sun.

NASA has expressed two clear reasons why they planned this holiday trip: to determine why the sun’s corona is millions time hotter than its red hot surface, and to investigate into why the solar wind that we’ve been hearing a lot lately is getting accelerated. All this and more, will be answered before 2018, if, and only if, the Solar Probe Plus didn’t get melted by the sexy sun ladies. And please, someone tell NASA to build that if they wish to go to the sun.
