India’s $35 Android tablet has a twin?

Posted on 01:18 by Unknown

I’m not sure whether we can take this as breaking news, or a rumormill. Some reports have come in, that the India’s $35 tablet is believed to be a Hivision Speedpad, which is a $100 Android tablet made in China.

India made popular their ‘Designed in India’ tablet due to its unbelievably low price of $35 for students, at least. When you announced an Android tablet that cost merely $35, while everyone outside is pretty much paying over $200 to even $500 for nearly the same thing, whose gonna blame you for being sceptical.

Now we won’t directly jump to the conclusion that the government of India had lie blatantly to the whole world, but these images are just hard to ignore. The government had declared that the tablet being the result of hard work done by top Engineering colleges in India, whose reputation will definitely take a huge beating if at all this news turns out to be true.

At-least with what we can see, the $35 tablet looks like a knockoff of the Chinese Speedpad (PWS700HA) which was unveiled at CeBIT 2010 and received wide coverage as the cheapest Android tablet on display. Not just the looks, even the specs are very similar. Well we’ll just wait for an ‘official’ statement from the India’s government regarding this piece of report, if they would be bothered that is.
