The computer specialist from Hong Kong is back to add another model for their ever expanding Zbox HTPC lineup. The new one and ‘slightly improved’ is called Zbox HD-ID40. Blu-ray is missing this round, but you get a new 1.8GHz dual-core D525 processor, along with some 2GB memory and 250GB storage space (or an optional SSD). Obviously the Full HD movies will be processed by the popular Nvidia Ion graphics.
You can either get the above spec, or get a barebone rig and supply your own components and OS. Pretty much a stripped down model for budget users. I can see how this will be rather popular in certain part of the world. No word on pricing at the moment, but this model should be hitting retail pretty soon.
Woot, what do we have here? Accidental addition or intentional planting of a seed of doubt to innocent lambs? The Fermi-based GF100 cards might be out not just long ago, but there’s no harm for Nvidia to refresh their DirectX 11 lineup, if they were serious on fighting AMD this time. NVIDIA briefly listed a card called the GTX 580 on its System Requirements page and, and it was quickly pulled after news of its presence started making the rounds.
Thus far, all rumored specs should be taken with a pint of salt, as there’s just no solid source with a trustable spec to refer to. Anyway, we might see the refreshed new products hitting shelves as early as end of December, which is about 2 months’ time. Hopefully this won’t need you to upgrade your power supply again. Probably a refined GTX 480 with better heat dissipation and power consumption. But it’ll be pretty hard to beat AMD’s current generation card’s efficiency numbers.
The Internet mammoth is up at it again. Google is going to use Stanford’s campus to trial their fiber optic Internet service before going for the mass public. This is a follow up to the earlier news that Google is planning to rollout 1Gbps fiber connection to between 50,000 and 500,000 homes in a given community. Looks like they’ve finalized their hardware and is ready to give it a try. Lucky Stanford students.
The university’s Residential Subdivision — a group of approximately 850 faculty- and staff-owned homes on campus — will be the testing grounds for the aforesaid internet service, and the current plan is to break ground on the initiative in early 2011. El Goog chose Stanford for a couple of reasons: first, it’s bright enough to realize how awesome of a PR move this is, and second, this chunk of campus is spitting distance from Mountain View. Would be a breeze to handle. I’m curious how this will fare for Google as an ISP (Internet Service Provider). Thus far worldwide ISP companies have their fair share of customer service complains.
