The Joule Stand sets a new standard for iPad accessories

Posted on 03:47 by Unknown

One look at this iPad stand and you’ll get the feel of ‘class’ and ‘luxury’ with it. Mixing technology luxury with aluminium-ware glory, the joule stand is made of solid aluminium bricks, like the unibody iPad and MacBooks. Customers have a choice of chrome or anodized black finishes. It has a magnetically-attached tilt foot to easily change the viewing angle, rubber pads for grip, and a velvet-lined recess to avoid the iPad from being scratched. But of course, the price of $129 is somewhat ‘justified’ for the unibody aluminium build.

Nissan the next player of electric sports car?

Posted on 03:46 by Unknown

The automotive market is now screeching with automakers trying to pump out fast electric cars such as Audi with their R8 E-Tron and Mercedes with their yellow gullwing. Now Nissan could be the next player as sources close to the company revealed the possibility of Nissan producing an electric sportscar.

Nothing else has been confirmed, thus we could only assume that the Japanese company using existing body structures from its current line-up such as the 370Z to test out prototype. This would be a relatively good choice as the Fairlady is a lightweight coupe. However, the size of this sportscar will be its downside; as such size would be hard to contain the vast weight and size of the lithium batteries.

Nissan would most probably source powerplant from their Leaf platform, and plung it into the Fairlady’s body, with some tweaks to get more juice out of the motors. Perhaps they might plung the motors into the Skyline G35’s coupe body too, which is strong and light enough, yet has ample space to store the batteries. Therefore the use of its premium brand Infiniti would be possible for the hybrid race.

The Compass iPad stand lets you use your iPad in multiple angles

Posted on 03:44 by Unknown

Love the iPad Joule Stand but hated the price to death? Here’s a cheaper that might just suit you nicely, though not as majestic as the former choice. The Twelvesouth’s Compass iPad Stand gives you flexible viewing angles and portability at a reasonable price. It’s lighter compared to the unibody aluminum of the Joule, and is portable because you can actually fold it and put it in any pocket of your bag. The only doubt that I have would be how solid it can be, but being only $40, it sure is a better choice.

Skype finally updated for iOS 4

Posted on 03:43 by Unknown

Finally we see Skype being updated for iOS 4. What does this mean? Better graphics and interface for retina display, but more importantly, background VoIP! Yes, now you can use your 3G connection to call your friend using Skype, for free! Sadly it’s only for 3GS and 4 users (of course).

A notification window will pop up when you’re called or messaged, and you can use other apps while on the line chatting to friends, anytime and anywhere. Even on the lock screen, if you received a call, sliding to unlock your iPhone will take you immediately into the call. Sad thing is that video chat is still missing.

Finally a USB external Blu-ray drive hit retails.

Posted on 03:42 by Unknown

It might cost an arm and a leg if you want to have Blu-ray drive in your computer or laptop. Perhaps your existing computer works great that there’s no point in buying a new computer just for the Blu-ray drive. But now, Plextor has a solution for you. It’s latest USB-equipped Blu-ray drive will spoil you with the amount of Blu-ray movies out there.

The new PX-B120U is a USB-powered BD-ROM drive, which not only plays back Blu-ray flicks but also burns DVDs and CDs of the blank variety. The standout feature, of course, is the ability to function entirely off of USB, which means there’s no need for that annoying power brick. What’s more, the external drive can be converted into a living room Blu-ray player just by connecting it to the PlexMedia. And the best part of all, it’s not going to cost you your limb, as the $99.99 price tag sure is juicy!

HP TouchSmart tm2 now available with Core i5 setup

Posted on 03:41 by Unknown

HP TouchSmart has always been a drag for me. I remember the hu-ha that it made when the Windows Vista version came with 4GB and everyone said that it won’t lag like shit anymore, but what mess it made. Now the TouchSmart has been upgraded, with pure quad core power plant and Windows 7. Hopefully this combination will blow us out. The lovely HP TouchSmart has always been a joy to us, except for the lagging Vista OS that was so yesteryear.

Now you can get a new TouchSmart tm2 with a Core i5-430UM processor running at 1.2GHz, which is able to hit 1.73GHz with Turbo Boost. Besides, the 4GB of DDR3 memory sure would come in handy for the workloads. What’s more, you can play with this baby, as you can choose your setup between an integrated Intel graphics and a discrete ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450. Talk about HD goodness with DirectX 11 gaming potential while on the go. Sounds like a plan? Then hit the link and get yours today!

More than half of the Android phone worldwide now runs on Éclair!

Posted on 03:40 by Unknown

That’s good news indeed. We all know that many manufacturers customize their Android to their specific products, unlike the iOS which can be upgraded straight forward. But as of July 15, 55.5 percent of Android devices are already updated to Éclair. As the Éclair was released not long ago, this fast migration seemed to be good news for the Android community.

Android 1.5 and 1.6 however, still account for some 41 percent of overall Google-powered phones. Froyo (Android 2.2) seemed to be still in the mud, as only a measly 3.3 percent figure covers the chart. But this can’t be blamed, as there are no manufacturers that have updated their devices with Froyo, which means only Nexus One users, can run on Froyo, and since Nexus One has ended its service, it would be even slower to see the pickup. Hopefully now that dark green line at the very bottom will start to shoot upwards and all things will go well, as the mighty Android takes over the world.

Now Nokia has a reason to fire back at Apple. Let the Smartphone war begins!

Posted on 03:40 by Unknown

While Nokia claims that it always prioritizes antenna performance over physical design when developing a phone, that doesn’t stop it from being another victim of Apple’s ‘Hey their phone also got antenna problem’ show. The video below shows Apple demonstrating that the Nokia N97 Mini going down for the count on their antenna’s reception, from a full seven bars to two. Sure gives enough reason for Nokia to start the Smartphone war, and get their lazy bums moving and make good smartphones to fight Apple, though I had to admit that currently Nokia doesn’t have what it takes to give a good fight to Apple, looking at how awful their Symbian OS is. Apple makes a better touchscreen smartphone than Nokia, and RIM makes a better QWERTY smartphone than Nokia. Despite the big Symbian app community, there’s no strict control over it, and the OS itself is such a lag-fest. Hey, hey Nokia! Yeah, you! The N8 is ugly!

BlackBerry Curve 9300 spotted in the wild, examined!

Posted on 03:38 by Unknown

Yet again, another smartphone found in Vietnam. It seemed that Hanoi is the IN-place to get your stuff lost. Vietnamese site Mainguyen has somehow gotten its hands on a unit of RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry Curve 9300, and dived into it to have a look at how it workout. The new 9300 resembles more of a higher-end Curve 8900 that has now been discontinued, even though it’s supposed to replace the Curve 8250. There’s also a 3.2-megapixel camera. Sadly, the supposed video that described it has been taken down from YouTube.

500 million people farming in Facebook

Posted on 03:37 by Unknown

These few weeks we’ve been flooded with huge amount of figures from the Silicon Valley. But it seemed that founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, also wants a piece of that party pie. He’s just announced through the official Facebook blog, that the site now has 500 million users. What a staggering amount of users that is, seeing that Facebook has just started connecting you and the chick that you ONS few years ago, and many other people since six years ago. I guess more and more people likes to virtually lawn their mow and steal your fruits and balls; because you can’t get caught and sued for stealing others’ veges and fruits in Facebook.

NVIDIA release midrange Fermi, hoping for a fight with ATI

Posted on 01:04 by Unknown

To many, it seemed late by a year, but NVIDIA still insist for a fight despite being late. It’s finally ready to ‘try’ and snatch back its market share that was taken by AMD last year with the midrange Fermi, the GeForce GTX460.

The GTX460 has a 336 CUDA cores with 675MHz graphics and 1.35GHz processor speeds as its heart, and a ‘typical’ 768MB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 3.6GHz, which is now fondly available on all Fermi cards. Its CUDA cores have will have 192-bit bus memory interface to push your frames to the DirectX 11 century.

Yes, all Fermi has native support for DirectX 11. It also comes with HDMI and 2 x DVI ports. No display ports it seemed though. For $200, that’s quite a good card to choose from, if you haven’t get 1 DirectX 11 card to play Assassin’s Creed 2 or DiRT 2. Hopefully they do run cool enough to not cook an egg this time.

Android alerts users of free parking space, 1st come 1st serve

Posted on 01:03 by Unknown

The Open Spot is a good idea, but surely we can see that things like this need a critical mass of followers to be effective to the endpoint, what’s more it is hard to get users to keep up the habit of updating it. But then, it’s a good initiative for Google. Well there has to be someone to start and roll the snowball right?

Only for Android 2.0 and above, the app allows motorists to search for empty spaces that have been reported by ‘other Open Spotters’ to be empty, and once they left their spot, users should update the spaces’ status is availability. The availability is distinguished by color in the map of the app. Once a spot is marked, the color gradually fades from red to yellow the longer it remains unclaimed. Users will be able to add notes to each marked space, and even receives karma points (aha!) for every space that they dropped. Seemed like a fun factor added to our daily routine. Let’s just hope droid users are keen to update the status. Oh and the best part of all, it’s totally free! So scramble over to the source and pick up the app for your droid!

The Chinese invades our bathroom with touchscreen watertab

Posted on 01:01 by Unknown

Interior designers may come up with hundreds or even thousands or unique designs on bathroom, but nothing could beat this amazing faucet design from Renshui of China. It something that has yet to be done before. They not only redesign the faucet’s typical shape and style, but also incorporate something that’s amazing, touchscreen panel.

This model that won a Red Dot Design Award, packs a touchscreen panel that lets you switch between hot and cold water, or dial in the exact temperature you want – which is, of course, displayed on the faucet itself (it’ll even warn you if the water is getting too hot). But then, I wonder how it works when our hands are soaking wet.

Google invest in Zynga quietly, Google Farm coming?

Posted on 01:00 by Unknown

The Internet behemoth Google has been reported to invest between $100 and $200 million in Zynga, which house the infamous Farmville, and others like Mafia Wars. This should be interesting, as Google Games might come later this year with some swords and shield to have a fierce battle with Facebook over its social media dominance.

Zynga sure has proven itself as a capable leader in the Internet flash game that attracts Google to invest as a platform for the foundation of Google Games. Google’s strong intention to dive into this sector is further proven with a job opening for “Product Management Leader, Games” at their Mountain View campus.

With Google Me, the company’s purported Facebook killer, continuing to take shape by each day, this major investment in Zynga is just further proof that Google is making a very serious effort to hit Facebook where it hurt, namely, the farms. Time to prepare some bug sprays for your farms Facebook!

Stanford University begins e-Library services to students

Posted on 00:59 by Unknown

The Stanford University’s management sure are some very intelligent and technologically updated fellows. By looking through the records of their Engineering Library faculty, they found out that there are a large numbers of books that did not check-out in the past five years. More so, further investigation shows that majority of the engineering students only borrow books to browse through formulas and theories statements. This is largely through. I used to hunt for books in the library only to double confirm the formula usage and some other small details. Hardly have I check-out the books and read those thousand pages Engineering books throughout the whole weekend.

Therefore, to save up resources and spaces, the Stanford University has reduced nearly 85% of the books (from 60,000 to only 10,000) on their dusty shelves. What’s been taken away, has been replaced with digitized books on their online archives.

So instead of carrying the physical volumes, the library will offer access to searchable, digitized versions of books and periodicals—especially useful for engineers who often only need to consult the book for a formula or two in the first place. The new library will still hold 10,000 real deal paper books, but that’s compared to the 60,000 that sat on the shelves in the old library.

Well, I think it’s a smart way to reduce the falling of trees onto unnecessary books that is hardly touched. Since we’ve greatly marched into the digital century, it’s of kush a great idea to digitize books for students, whom majority hold a notebook for studies usage. With the introduction of the e-Library, students can have access to reading materials nearly anywhere with Internet connectivity.

LG soon to join Sony as Google TV hardware provider

Pandigital revolutionize our photo scanning experience

Posted on 00:55 by Unknown

When I think of Photo Scanner, all that I can think of are those bulky flatbed scanners from Canon and Epson. I always thought of the possibility that we might see some compact scanners in the size of rods using rollover technique, or at least not that big like a flatbed. But it looks like the wait is over, all thanks to Pandigital.

Typical scanning of a photo entails something along the lines of placing the photo onto a device, loading some photo software, waiting while the scanner groans away, cropping the resulting image, and then shuffling the resulting bits off into a folder somewhere. That’s classic. But Pandigital plans to alter that, by few inches at least.

Their latest Personal Photo Scanner/Converter can be fed with documents or photos up to 8.5 x 11 in size, and is able to load em all straight into your memory card with the integrated card reader (SD, Memory Stick, etc.) at 600dpi resolution quality. Your work could significantly increase and your workflows smoothen. You can even dump that dusty bulky scanner at home if you need to travel a lot. The output is not only the card reader though; you can still connect the Personal Photo Scanner through a miniUSB and have the photos saved into your computer. The only downside is an integration of a battery. With it, this new age scanner will surely be the best buy for portable scanner. But then, for a price of $149.99, it’s hard to ask for so much.

Gives your iPhone some Ark-ism with the ArkHippo

Posted on 00:55 by Unknown

The Ark team has a cute concept. But the concept literally throws away your iPhone’s compactness and mobility. How come? Well, how portable can your iPhone get when its squeezed inside a dumb foam that is shaped like an antique bulky phone?

The ArkHippo’s point is that they want your iPhone to be more resistance for those ‘end-the-call-and-throw-the-phone’ activity, instead of returning them to your pocket. Have a look at the idea in the video below. By the looks of it, I don’t really trust this thing, as it does not mention of protecting the screen. What happens if you hit the floor or the corner of something hard, directly on your screen? That sounds like a shattered heart. And oh, the ‘coming soon’ version won’t be made by foams of kush, but instead it will be made of a proprietary material similar to those used in the Crocs shoes.

Fire fire burning on your iPhone 4, oh oh!

Posted on 00:54 by Unknown

It’s not an everyday story that Apple products got burned by Portgas D. Ace. But once in a blue moon, we still get some ‘idevice got burned or exploded’ news from nowhere. This just proves that there are no ‘0% defects’ in manufacturing, no matter how strict your QC is. Apple’s products getting faulty or malfunction is a common news for me, but a brand new iPhone 4 that got burned out of the blue is really shocking, considering the ‘just released’ status of the product.

A new and happy yet innocent user of the iPhone 4 in the States got his hand scotched when his brand new iPhone 4 caught on fire while being hooked up to a computer via its Apple-provided USB cord. The phone was fried, and its owner’s hand got burned in the process. How unlucky. AT&T the carrier company sniffed around, and found the fault to be on a defective USB port, not human error.

Apple did confirm to our AT&T connection that this did appear to be a defective USB port and not some sort of user error. Our source went onto say that the phone bezel was extremely hot (obviously), and it slightly burned the customer’s hand. The USB port in the phone was slightly melted and the cord was badly melted (as is apparent in the pictures).

Not that anyone expects this to be a widespread concern, but it’s unfortunate that every time a new iPod or iPhone comes out there seems to be at least one or two reports of the device catching fire. There was the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch last year, the iPod Nano the year before that, and other scattered incidents in between.

It’s a known, recurring problem. It seemed that ‘flammable gadget’ curse still stalks Apple around, and Apple doesn’t seem to be able to make a new product that ‘totally won’t get fried’. I mean, they should implement some sort of electric shock security system or some niche tricks in their products. It’s still a normal USB cable, and USB does not send crazily high voltage that will make an electronic device get fired up easily.

French flavored Apple store goes live in Paris

Desktop Earth: The Earth on your desktop, real time updated.

Posted on 04:25 by Unknown

Desktop Earth is an app that lets you have generated wallpapers from satellite imagery of our home planet. It runs from the system tray, continuously updating the wallpaper to reflect changes in sunlight, foliage and even snow cover. Automatically resizing images to match the Windows PC’s native resolution and reduce the load on the system, Desktop Earth takes care of itself for the most part. However, the user can control the level of cloud cover, which time zone the wallpaper is centered on, if night lights appear on the dark areas of the satellite images, and of course, the setting for updates.

Needless to say, Desktop Earth requires a permanent internet connection. It won’t update if you get offline. the utility can be downloaded here.

Kingston’s USB3.0 ext. HDD delayed, sad case for speedy nerds.

Kingston’s ‘HyperX’ products have always been marketed as speed kings in hardware and gadget world. Their famous ‘Data Travelers’ & ‘Hyper X Rams’ have always live up to expectation. But now big fans of Kingston will need to hold their horse on this new product.

The upcoming external SSD ‘HyperX’, which is an external hard disk equipped with SSD and USB3.0 interface, has been delayed until September, instead of the scheduled August release. This pocket-sized zippy SSD is promised with read and write speeds of 195MB/s and 160MB/s respectively. That’s surely one nice external to store all my mobile HD clips. Think about the time saved while sharing files among friends. However, typical SSD, the size would only consist of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB respectively. There’s no pricing yet at the moment, but we’ll surely update you with it as we go along. Time to get yourself a USB3.0 compatible motherboard. Those China-made adapters sure are untrustworthy. Well then, wake me up when September comes.

Expresso GPS, a SatNav for dads.

Posted on 04:23 by Unknown

It’s common to find GPS systems for cars, but we’ve also seen a few that’s specially made for unkers playing golf. As the golf course is so huge, they might get lost, who knows? But now, this Expresso GPS (note: undrinkable) will show the unkers which holes they should hit (at the golf course mind you!), and which way to go home when the missus called.

Running on a customized operating system, it’s linked to a huge chunk database with over 32,500 golf courses globally. That’s a good thing, if your mistress is half way at the other side of the globe. The operating system is called iGolf, so don’t be surprised if Apple goes buying this company and sell the ‘i-Expresso’ 10 times more! You heard it 1st at 2dayblog.com! Even comes with the utility to map your own course if your local ones aren’t listed, as your mistress might be in a totally deserted island with nobody other than a million-dollar chalet and a golf course. The Expresso GPS also shows 2D and 3D way-points, so at least it’s not very dated.

The iPhone 4’s ‘photonic’ 5MP sensor gets an uber lens

Posted on 04:20 by Unknown

Steve Jobs might have swear on the iPhone 4’s new 5 Mega-Pixel ‘photonic’ camera, but that does not mean others agree. To some ‘professionals’, there’s always room for improvement. Continuing the great tradition of iPhones awkwardly outfitted with camera lenses, one ‘heroic’ individual has now come up with an uber-huge mechanism (compared to the iPhone 4) that will let you “attach” a full-size SLR lens to your iPhone 4. While complete details are a bit light, Technabob notes that the camera mount at the bottom of the rig is a Manfrotto pocket tripod — so you at least have a place to start for building your own.

New motorized wheel shoes coming your way, if it gets approved.

Posted on 04:18 by Unknown

Heeleys have been a hit trend few years ago, but now hardly anyone is cruising around town with them, besides Usher using them for dancing. However, there’s a new kid on the block to play with, when it gets released that is. It’s the motorized shoes from Treadways. Apparently the designer has entered them into the annual James Dyson Awards, and if successful could be put on the market. I sure wan to have a test run on these wheels.

Treadways’ founder Peter Treadway reckons they’re better suited as an alternative to using the car or bus for short-haul journeys. Well depends on the distance, but usually cycling would be a great option. Though, there’s no harm in zipping to the nearest grocery store for an ice cream using a zippy pair of lithium-polymer battery powered attachments that I can fold over my shoes. But I wonder what will happen if it goes crazy. Will I get carried around town like a crazy person?

Once again people go and prove that Apple’s product is just a beautified fruit. Ars Technica goes and compare Android 2.2 (Google Nexus One) and iOS4 (Apple iPhone 4) on JavaScript performance. The chart above clearly shows the obvious winner. Is Apple’s product an ‘all show no go’? But then, I doubt 98% of the iPhone users really care about the split second difference. Carbon Fibre Toilet Bowl for Golden Bum

Posted on 04:16 by Unknown

Alberto Del Biond, an Italian designer who have pledge his loyalty to carbon fiber due to its lightness and depth. I do understand the greatness of carbon fiber, being light and yet durable at some point. But when certain amount of force is applied, it will shatter like glass. An obvious choice if you’re gonna build a car’s chassis. But a toilet bowl? Not only is carbon fiber expensive, but I sure don’t think it is durable for some hardcore plumbing session. What’s more if someone’s gonna squad on top of it? Do not do that, if you don’t want a bleeding butt. The worst thing that you would want when doing your big business is a shattered toilet bowl that you’re sitting on. Also, there’s a cute fact from Gizmodo.

The designer also offers a matching bidet. To all our American readers, according to the Wikipedia: “A bidet is a low-mounted plumbing fixture or type of sink intended for washing the genitalia, inner buttocks, and anus.”

Sleepy Alarm Clock Concept for lazy bumps who steal extra time to sleep

Posted on 04:15 by Unknown

Pedro Gomes has designed the Sleepy Alarm clock concept that allows you to sleep a little bit longer every morning. Using this alarm clock, you can activate the snooze mode by simply moving the ball back and forth. A cute way to snooze your alarm clock early in the morning, though I think this product should be banned for lazy people like me. This alarm clock also features a cute design that will fit perfectly in the children’s room. Not very sharp, but then I still think it looks like a harmless weapon.
