The Open Spot is a good idea, but surely we can see that things like this need a critical mass of followers to be effective to the endpoint, what’s more it is hard to get users to keep up the habit of updating it. But then, it’s a good initiative for Google. Well there has to be someone to start and roll the snowball right?
Only for Android 2.0 and above, the app allows motorists to search for empty spaces that have been reported by ‘other Open Spotters’ to be empty, and once they left their spot, users should update the spaces’ status is availability. The availability is distinguished by color in the map of the app. Once a spot is marked, the color gradually fades from red to yellow the longer it remains unclaimed. Users will be able to add notes to each marked space, and even receives karma points (aha!) for every space that they dropped. Seemed like a fun factor added to our daily routine. Let’s just hope droid users are keen to update the status. Oh and the best part of all, it’s totally free! So scramble over to the source and pick up the app for your droid!
