The iPhone 4 madness has started, and the figures pawned any sales record of Apple as to date. 600,000 units of iPhones were reserved in 1 day, and that’s just pre-ordering, not launching. We’re talking about skipping numbers in regards to AT&T’s servers melting due to overload network of orders, making AT&T suspending the pre-orders half way around noon. Imagine the numbers if the orders can go through with no glitch.
AT&T was serving up 13 million eligibility checks on the pre-order day, besides orders coming from Apple’s server, and Best buy’s servers too. That’s 3 times more than the previous launch. And that’s only AT&T, no other carriers, not including pre-orders from other countries. Imagine if Verizon gets a slice of the cake, and there’s no hiccup from AT&T’s systems during pre-order day, and let’s add some figures from foreign carriers. The numbers would have been so mind bogging that it put droids to shame.
Here’s Apple’s full statement:
Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.
